Hyderabad: Mentally unstable man kills 7-year old at railway station

Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad, Dec 11: A seven-year old girl was stabbed to death by a mentally-unstable man at the Secunderabad railway station on Tuesday.

Priyadarshini (the victim) was with her father and grandmother, waiting for a train to Solapur (Maharshtra) at platform number 10. Her father Srinivas had gone to fetch tickets when this happened.

Priyadarshini was declared brought dead to the hospital.

While Priyadarshini and her grandmother were waiting on the platform, a 25-year old man (who identified himself as Kumar) came on the pretext of playing with the girl, but attacked her suddenly with a kitchen knife, stabbing her. After committing the crime, he tried to take her away with him, but was intercepted by an RPF personnel. But the latter backed off when the man threatened to kill him and hurt others too. Following this, he tried to flee the spot by leaving the girl on the platform, but was caught by another RPF official, with the help of the passengers.

Priyadarshini was declared brought dead to the hospital. Confessing of his crime, Kumar revealed that he belongs to a small village in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, but the police is trying to get more details out of him. "We are not sure about the motive of the attack.

The assailant appears to be mentally unsound as he has been giving incoherent answers. Eyewitnesses said Kumar attacked the girl and not anyone else," said Sarvshresth Tripathy, the Government Railway Police superintendent of police, Secunderabad.

Kumar suffered severe injuries when people caught and beat him. He has been admitted to the hospital.
