Vishakhapatnam Shocker: Andhra University professor arrested for Maoists link, explosives supplied
All hullabaloos began when an associate professor of Andhra University was taken away from his home recently. Police now claimed that he was arrested for his alleged links with the Maoists.
The professor has been identified as J Appa Rao who has been accused of supplying explosives to Maoists. He was arrested from Vishakhapatnam.
Arrested Andhra University professor is said to be a rights activist
Vishakhapatnam Police claimed that they arrested the professor following information that he has links with the Maoists. Visakhapatnam rural police said Rao was suspected to be involved in supplying explosives to the extremists.
Meanwhile, a police officer informed that the arrested professor will be present before media by Thursday evening. His arrest was announced Thursday morning, a few hours after the assistant professor's family lodged a complaint that unidentified people kidnapped him from his house in university staff quarters.
Rao's wife complained that few people came in a car around 2 am and took him away. Appa Rao is said to be a rights activist who used to actively participate in various movements for the protection of rights of tribals.
