The lack of intelligence was one of the primary reasons why the Naxals were able to carry out such as deadly attack on the CRPF personnel at Chhattisgarh on Monday. One of the key informers for the CRPF was killed by Naxals in a bid to send out a warning.

How information deficit led to Chhattisgarh naxal attack

The CRPF had broken ground and even earned the trust of the villagers in Sukma district. However, the killing of Madvi Dula, the sarpanch, changed everything. The villagers would visit the CRPF camp in large numbers for medicines and other help.

However, following the killing of Dula in January was a warning signal for the villagers. Immediately after the killing, the Naxals distributed pamphlets and put up posters warning villagers with the same fate if they continued to inform the police and other security forces.

Following the killing of Dula, the number of villagers visiting the camp came down drastically. With this, the information flow reduced considerably. Had these events not taken place, the CRPF would have known for sure about the major build up at the Naxals' elite military battalion.

Immediately after the killing of Dula, the information for the CRPF dried up. The Naxals began mobilising their forces immediately and went on to build a strong battalion.

Officials say that the killing of Dula should have been a sign about what the Naxals were up to. The ground level intelligence that is so crucial for the forces had completely failed since the killing of Dula in January.
