Mumbai, May 29: Women are known for their sixth senses and housewives can do wonders with their abilities to socialise. The Mumbai police has decided to use this particular skill to use, following a surge in the number of rapes and sexual assaults in the Antop Hill, Wadala areas of the city.

A team of five housewives have been shortlisted, all from different zones, and given training to identify womanisers, drug addicts, and anti-social elements in the locality.

Deven Bharti, joint commissioner of police (law and order) was quoted telling Mid-Day said,"Yes, this is a pilot project we have started. The women have been given special training and will act as the eyes and ears of Mumbai police."

He further added that the cases of sexual assault in these very areas have seen a spike in the past few years, most of them including minor girls. Incidentally, 71 cases of rape were registered in Antop hill and Wadala TT police stations together last year.

He also said that the women 'detective' force will always be protected. "Protecting these women (detectives) and keeping their identity secret is paramount. Any information they provide will be dealt with on urgent basis," Bharti said.
