Barabanki (UP), Dec 17: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 22-year-old woman was strangulated to death allegedly by her father and uncles for marrying against wishes of her family, in Kaimai area here, police said on Thursday.
The victim, identified as Priti, was killed by her father Harilal and uncles Ramkumar, Harinam and Ramkunwar on Tuesday night for marrying against the family wishes and later her body was packed in a sack and dumped in bushes, they said.
About a year and a half ago, Priti eloped with one Sandeep to Ambala, where they got married, police said.
Recently, the victim's family somehow managed to convince the couple to return and when Priti reached her parents' house on Tuesday.
Subsequently, her father and uncles first assaulted and later strangulated her to death, they said. Later the accused locked the house and escaped. Priti's husband had lodged a complaint of her being missing and during the investigation Hariram was detained on the basis of suspicion, police said.
During interrogation, Hariram confessed to commit the murder and narrated the entire incident to the police, they said.
On the basis of information provided by him, Priti's body was recovered last night, police said. A case has been lodged and efforts were being made to nab the other accused who are still absconding, police added.
