HCU students allege sexual assault by police
Hyderabad, March 24: There's an emergency-like situation in Hyderabad Central University where student groups allege that the police has been acting brutally, beating and groping students.
While protesting against VC P Appa Rao, a PhD scholar Uday Bhano said that he was allegedly beaten unconscious by the police for trying to cook.
A student body comprising 14 students said that an emergency-like situation has been imposed on the university campus and the authorities have shut the hostel mess, water and internet connection.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) for social justice, in a Facebook post, said,"Women students were beaten and grabbed by male police officers. After the forcible eviction from the lodge compound, police chased us for another 2 km, and grabbed and arrested students. Students suffered grievous injuries and were taken to hospitals."
It has also been claimed that 36 students including 3 officers have been illegally beaten and detained at unknown places. The students were participating in a four-day class boycott after the lathi charge on Tuesday and the arrest of 28 students.
Registrar M. Sudhakar said,"We have taken a decision not to allow any outsider, including mediapersons and political parties, on the campus."
