HC dismisses plea against Kanimozhi in assets case
Chennai, Apr 23: The Madras High Court has dismissed a petition filed against Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, Kanimozhi seeking a direction to authorities to take action on the representation made against her acquiring assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.

"The writ petition is not maintainable and hence dismissed," the First Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh, said in its brief order. In his petition one Kishore K Swamy of Bangalore alleged that in the affidavit filed by Kanimozhi during re-election to Rajya Sabha in July last, she had shown Rs 1,86,57,520 as her annual income.

The petitioner, after listing various properties allegedly acquired by Kanimozhi during July 2007 to July 2013 worth about crores in his affidavit, alleged that she may have earned about Rs 11.16 crores during the above period.

He also alleged that she has paid huge amounts as advocate fees for her bail in the 2G scam. He further alleged that after deducting her expenditure she could not have acquired the above said properties through known sources of Income. He said he filed the plea as authorities did not take action on his representation to take action in the matter.
