Shankersinh Vaghela resigns from Congress
The veteran Congress leader celebrates his 77th birthday today
Shankersinh Vaghela has resigned from all posts of the Congress. He said that his supporters are free birds and they are free to decide on their future. He made this announcement at Gandhinagar.
Earlier Vaghela had said, "The Congress expelled me 24 hours ago having no idea what I was going to say today.
The veteran Congress leader, in a show of strength, addressed a massive gathering on his 77th birthday as he dealt one blow after another to the Congress despite reiterating that he was still with the party. Vaghela told the crowd that the party had chosen to sack him on Thursday but he was still a member.
He added that he would not quit politics as the crowd cheered him on. "I entered public life for the people and not for myself," he said. Throughout his speech, the leader attacked the Congress and its functioning. "I have always been a king maker. I brought many people to public life and made them MLAs, MPs and Chief Ministers. I do not need to indulge in marketing," the Vaghela said. Vaghela's attacks come at a time when the state is headed towards assembly elections.
The Congress party was quick to rubbish Vaghela's allegations and claimed that he was not sacked.
Party spokespersons, speaking to media representatives said that Vaghela had resigned in contradiction to his claims of being ousted from the party.
