Chhabil Patel from Abdasa assembly seat of Kutch district and Prabhu Vasava from Mandvi assembly seat of Surat district had submitted their resignations to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Vaju Vala yesterday.
Patel was a two-time assembly legislator of Congress. Though he began his political career with BJP, he had left the party 18 years ago.
According to a news report, Patel said that his "sole intention to joining the BJP is to strengthen Modi's chances of being PM".
"If Narendra Modi can provide such good governance in Gujarat, we as Gujaratis should do all that we can to ensure he serves the country as well", Patel was quoted as saying to CNN IBN.
A total of five MLAs have resigned and joined BJP in the last month.
However, Vasava, who was president of Surat district Congress unit, has no prior links to BJP.
But Vasava, too, has started singing 'Modi tune' as he said, "the people are overwhelmingly in favour of Modi and the BJP and it makes sense to be with the people than swim against the tide."
Earlier, three other Congress MLAs resigned and joined BJP.
Rajendrasinh Chavda, an MLA from Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha district and Jasa Barad, who is an MLA from Somnath in Junagadh district, resigned to join BJP.
In the last week of January, Lathi MLA Bavku Undhad joined BJP after submitting his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker.
As the Lok Sabha elections 2014 are about to knock the doors, the BJP got a shot in arm as total of five MLAs have resigned and joined BJP in the last month.
The BJP has 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat.
