Ahmedabad, Oct 27: With the approaching Cyclone Nilofar, Gujarat is gearing up to face the aftermath. The cyclone is said to have developed in the Arabian Sea and is likely to move toward Gujarat's coast within the next 48 hours. Some parts of Pakistan are also likely to be affected.

District authorities in the coastal areas are monitoring the situation and have advised to keep the control rooms operational.

A few coastal districts of Gujarat would receive isolated heavy and heavy rainfall from Oct 30 as it is expected to turn into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours, said the Meteorological Department. While it remained stationary at a distance of about 1240 kms southwest of Naliya (Gujarat), 1300 kms south-southwest of Karachi in Pakistan and 900 kms east-southeast of Salalah (Oman) on Sunday, it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours by Oct 31.

A statement released by the Met Department said,"Under the influence of this system, rainfall at many places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls would commence along coastal districts of Saurashtra and Kutch from October 30 morning."

Sea conditions along and off the Gujarat coast will be rough during the same period. The statement said that fisherman out in the sea should be called off.
