Group of students from IIT-Delhi campaigns for Modi

IIT-Delhi students campaign for Modi
New Delhi, Feb 27: As the Lok Sabha elections are looming, a group of 200 students in India's yop technology institute IIT-Delhi have come together to campaign for Bharat Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, said a Mil Today report.

"It was around six months ago that five fellow students and I discussed channelling the strong support wave for Modi prevalent in the institute. That's when the idea to form a student group to campaign for Modi struck. We also formed a Facebook group for students like us," said a core group member requesting anonymity.

The group is aptly called 'IITians support MODI'. The students insists that while they support Modi, it does not necessarily mean that they support his party too.

The Facebook group has around 381 members, and includes IITians from Kharagpur as well.

"We are independent of the BJP and have no alliance with them. We introduce ourselves as IIT students and not BJP supporters because then we will not be considered neutral," said Sahil Aggarwal, a final year Mechanical Engineering student. Interestingly, his mobile ring tone is a 'Modi anthem'.

The group holds weekly meetings and is focusing on its campaign on social media. Each member has to devote at least 3- 4 hours daily for the campaign work which involves updating the status message, story links and replying to comments on various online groups.
