UP: Groom drugged, bride marries lover

Lucknow, Feb 25: In a one-of-its-kind incident in Uttar Pradesh, a bride is reported to have deliberately drugged her groom by offering him sweets laced with sedatives. Following which, he became unconsious.

25 year old Jugal Kishore alleges that when he was rushed to the hospital, his fiancee got married to her lover in the same venue. He further alleges that his bride Indravati did this to insult him and his family members and marry her lover Harpal Singh.

Jugal is reported to have said,"I was hungry for the whole day as part of the ceremony and was offered sweet made of betel leaves after which I started feeling uncomfortable and fainted."

An embarassed Jugal had to return home without his wife as she was someone else's now. He said,"I had to return home without my wife. I can never forgive her for this embarrassment." He also alleged that the bride's family demanded Rs 50,000 from him when he protested

Indravati's family, however, has a different version altogether. While they agree that she was married off to someone else with their consent, they also claimed that Indravati broke her marriage at the last moment because she came to know that Jugal was an alcoholic. However, they denied the fact that they had served him with sedatives.

JUgal had filed a report at the police station, but later withdrew the case as he realised that there was nothing he could do as Indravati was married to someone else now.
