Govt knew of Ahamed's death, delayed announcement: Kharge
The leader of the opposition allegations were fuelled by the deceased MP’s family alleging that they were not allowed to see the MP
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of deliberately delaying announcing the death of Kerala Member of Parliament E Ahamed. Speaking to the media hours before the scheduled budget presentation, Kharge alleged that the government could have easily postponed the budget by a day but chose not to.
"The government knew Ahamed had passed away, but was trying to perhaps delay announcement. This was an inhuman act. It is not March 31 and there is a lot of time and the government can afford to postpone the budget," he said.
Kharge's allegations come hours after Ahamed's family alleged that they were not allowed to see the MP who was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital after he collapsed in Parliament on Tuesday. The family's allegations only fuelled the Congress' attack against the government.
"In our opinion, including JD-U leaders and former PM Deve Gowda, the Budget should be postponed. I will go to Kerala to discuss with the MPs on how to raise this issue in the parliament," Kharge added.
