Meerut, Nov 21: Mumbai Police has arrested a self-styled godman for allegedly duping actress Shila Shetty's father of Rs two crore. The conman Devendra was arrested from Hastinapur area of Meerut district. Ashutosh Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Meerut range has confirmed the arrest.
Police said that godman cheated Surendra Shetty, father of Shilpa Shetty on the false promise of opening Yoga ashram and herbal products company. Peeved Shilpa's father later lodged a complaint at Andheri Police station in Mumbai.
Surendra Shetty had alleged that Devendra had duped him of Rs two crore after promising him of opening a Yogpeeth, on the lines of Ramdev's Patanjali yogpeeth, and herbal products company, police said.
'Baba Devendra' won Surendra's confidence and asked for Rs two crore for the purpose. On receiving the amount, he escaped from Mumbai after which on Surendra's complaint, Andheri police lodged an FIR on September 16 this year and were searching from him, they said.
Devendra, who hails from Rani Nangla village in Hastinapur area here, had worked in Ramdev's Yogpeeth in Haridwar, they said. Mumbai Police are presently interrogating Devendra in Hastinapur police station, they said.
