Goa to celebrate Tripurari boat festival on Nov 17

Panjim, Nov 14: Panjim is all set to be a part of the Tripurari Purnima Boat festival. The boat festival will be organised by Goa Tourism in association with Art and Culture department.

The festival, celebrated on Nov 17, will mark the end of Diwali celebrations in Goa.

The main highlight of this festival is the boat competition. Other activities include cultural programmes comprising songs by well known artists, performances of folk dances like Goff, Dhalo, Samai dance and more.

The legend related to this festival goes that a demon named Tripuri once built three cities of gold, silver and iron. Over a period of time, his powers grew and he started attacking humans and demi-gods.

Boat festival marks the end of Diwali celebrations in Goa

Brahma and Vishnu failed to defeat him and it was now upon Lord Shiva to kill him.

Shiva fought with him for three days and finally killed him on a full moon day in the Karthik month . Since that day onwards, the day is celebrated as Tripurari poornima.

The festival will begin on Nov 17 at Vithalapur, Sanquelim in Goa.
