Goa Chief Ministers Manohar Parrikar emerged victorious winning 22 votes in floor test in Goa assembly on Thursday. The Congress received a mere 16 votes, one vote less than what they originally won in the assembly polls. Parrikar won 22 votes including those of BJP MLAs, legislators of the Goa Forward party, 3 independent MLAs and 3 MLAs from the MGP.

The Congress saw rebellion within its ranks after it failed to consolidate support to form the government with MLAs such as Vishwajit Rane seeking Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's intervention. The rebellion seems to have affected the Congress during the trust vote with Rane being absent from his seat when the voting was underway. The BJP managed to secure 22 votes, one vote more than required to prove majority while the Congress lost 1 vote with 16 legislators supporting the party.

The BJP walked into the assembly with the confidence of winning the floor test and managed to secure ever single vote that was promised to them by their allies. The Congress had almost given up on the floor test admitting that they were unable to breach the BJP ranks. The floor test was ordered by the Supreme Court after the Congress sought a stay on Parrikar's swearing-in as the chief minister.
