New Delhi, June 9: The superintendent of a children's home in Lajpat Nagar was arrested on Tuesday on charges of rape for assaulting 12 minor girls sexually. The girls were between the age of 8 to 10.
In a statement issued by the caretaker of the home, whom the children called mummy, she said, "the girls were traumatised and were shaking when they narrated the ordeal to her on June 2. He took the girls to a small room and locked it from inside. He fiddled with their underclothes claiming that he was doing a checkup and sexually assaulted them. First the girls resisted, then cried, but he gagged them and held both their arms with one hand as he continued to assault them. He did not let them go till he was done. One by one, he assaulted 12 girls the same way."
The caretaker had stepped out for some time and left the girls to the 'safety' of the welfare officer, a woman and the superintendent, Ram Sahay Meena. Meena told the welfare officer that she could go and look after the boys and that he would handle the girls.
He is said to have taken the girls to a room where he switched on the TV and asked them to wait till the caretaker came back. After sometime, he asked one of the girls to accompany him to the nextroom where he locked the door and started touching her inappropriately. The caretaker said, ""He took the girl inside and locked the room. He started touching her inappropriately, undressed her and sexually abused her. When she cried in pain, he put his hand on her mouth. After he was done, he told the girl to go out and send her friend inside."
She further added, "He did the same to the next girl. The girls suffered from infection after they were abused. I got to know about this after I returned and the girls report the matter to me. I had to step out for official training."
Meena was appointed as the welfare officer by the Delhi government in 1998 and is posted here since 2015. He was a gazetted officer and was promoted recently. He was finally arrested Tuesday night. His phone was seized.
