Girl's body found on railway track in WB
The girl protested when her father was being beaten up on the orders of a "salishi sabha" for not paying for a power tiller he had rented. The Kangaroo court, led by Namita Roy, a woman councilor of Trinamool Congress party, ordered her to lick spit, which she refused to do. A NDTV report says that the girl went missing soon after the incident.
The girl's family has filed a police complaint alleging rape and murder. Reportedly, they have named 13 people, including the husband of the councilor. However, the villagers and the Kangaroo court members claimed that the girl committed suicide.
The witnesses who found the body on the track said that the body was unclothed except for a shawl draped around the shoulder. The girl's uncle said the villagers had threatened her openly. The girl was raped and then murdered, he alleged.
The Left parties have already taken up the case and the student activists have called for protests across the state.
