Ghaziabad, Mar 14: Angered by the funny antics of a bridegroom and his friends during the 'varmala' ceremony, a girl refused to marry the boy, in Sahibabad area here, police said today.
Police Inspector Upendra Yadav said the groom, along with barat, had arrived here from Pune while the girl belongs to Vasundhara area of Sahibabad.
Both had worked together in Pune in a multinational company and well known to each other, police said, adding that prior to this, the girl had a 15-day stay in the family of boy at Pune.
During nuptial at the stage yesterday, friends of the groom prompted him not to bow his neck and reverse a step while the girl attempted to garland him.
The girl took a step forward and again tried to garland him. This time again the boy repeated the move and stepped back. Finding herself in an embarrassing situation, the irritated girl warned the boy not to repeat the action else she will not marry him.
The groom and his friends took this warning as a joke and third time they lifted him in their lap. Finding her warning going in vain, the girl in a gush of anger threw the garland and finally denied to marry him, the police officer said. Today both parties reached police station and levelled allegations against each other.
When police asked both the parties to submit their written complaints to initiate legal actions, they retracted, police said. Finally a compromise was arrived at between both the parties in presence of police officers and they assured the police not to take any legal action against each other in future. The boy returned back to Pune without bride, the officer added.
