New Delhi, May 31: The government is considering to launch a first of its kind initiative to deliver 'Gangajal' at your door step through India Post. The initiative is being considered as attempts to strengthen the foundation of India's culture.
"I used to get several requests that with the vast network of post can we get Ganga water. I have directed Department of Posts to utilise e-commerce platform and make arrangement for providing pure Gangajal from Hardwar and Rishikesh to people," Prasad said on Monday.
"I have directed the Postal Department to utilise e-commerce platform and make arrangement for providing pure Gangajal from Haridwar, Rishikesh to the people. They have assured that they will take pro-active steps to address cultural needs," the minister said while announcing various achievements of the communications ministry in the last two years.
"If the postman can deliver mobile phone, saris, jewellery, apparel then why not Ganga water?" Prasad asked.
In what could be deemed as a big boost to the e-commerce industry, there is an increase in cash on delivery collections by India Post from Rs 500 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 1,300 crore in 2015-16.
