From VIP to common prisoner: Sasikala's dwindling visitors
From 27 visitors in 31 days, the number of people visiting Sasikala Natarajan has come down to 3 in 14 days. Sasikala who is currently lodged in the Parappana Agrahara central prison has fewer visitors these days. Since April 15, only three people, all from Tamil Nadu, have come to visit Sasikala, sources said. The number of visitors being allowed to meet her in violation of the jail manual had created a controversy earlier.
Rules for common prisoners allows visitors every 15 days. The visitors can be friends, family or legal advisors. In March, Sasikala Natarajan had as many as 27 visitors. While the jail superintendent has the powers to allow more visitors, the VIP treatment doled out to Sasikala had created a controversy.
Following news reports based on an RTI query, the jail authorities had come under severe fire and had assured to not allow more than stipulated number of visitors. Post the ruckus over too many people visiting her, the jail authorities have cut the number to size. Among the three visitors in April was a doctor who is a relative of the AIADMK leader. His visit had sparked off rumours of Ilavarasi's ill-health.
Upset over Dinakaran's arrest and her ouster from the party, Sasikala Natarajan is said to have refused to meet some visitors. The number of politicians from Tamil Nadu visiting Sasikala has drastically reduced.
