Four pregnant women ferried on a single stretcher in Karnataka hospital
Four pregnant women were recklessly ferried on a single stretcher in Karnataka's KIMS hospital in Hubli
Visuals of four pregnant women being ferried on a single stretcher exposed the state of affairs in a government hospital in Karnataka's Hubli district. The apathetic visuals from the biggest government hospital in Hubli, KIMS (Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences), sheds light on the difficulties poor patients are put through.
One of the visitors to the hospital shot the video of these women being shifted from the wards. When brought to the notice of the hospital authorities, they shockingly admitted that they were in the know of such instances. "We are aware of this. the staff are doing this to save time. about 30 to 35 pregnant women get admitted into the hospital on a daily basis and shifting each one of them individually on a wheelchair is time consuming. We will ensure that this doesn't repeat," said Shivappa Anur Shetty, chief of KIMS, Hubli.
The shocking justification by the hospital authorities only worsens matters. Despite being aware of such reckless instances, they chose to keep mum. After the video was made public, a group D staffer of the hospital was suspended. While she was suspended, no action whatsoever has been initiated against authorities who kept mum as the hospital continued to put lives of pregnant women and their unborn babies at risk.
