Issues such as drought in Karnataka or how to tackle the Supreme Court's verdict ordering release of Cauvery water were clearly not important enough for the lawmakers in Karnataka.

Instead, lawmakers spent most of their time discussing how to gag the media which according to them paints them in poor light.

Forget drought, Karnataka lawmakers more interested in gagging media

Lawmakers were clearly not interested in discussing the state budget which was presented a week ago. The lawmakers went ahead and set up a house panel which would suggest ways to keep the media -- both print and electronic -- in check.

Both the upper and lower houses were scheduled to discuss the state budget. There are more pressing issues such as drought and how to tackle it this summer. The infrastructure in Bengaluru is a mess, but the lawmakers found no time to discuss the same. Both houses spent a considerable amount of time criticising the media instead. The house panel would now look into the issue in a detailed manner on how to restrain the media. Once the report is submitted there is bound to be more discussion on this issue. The Speaker K Koliwad announced the setting up of a house panel to proposes methods to govern the media.
