Foreign funding for Zakir Naik NGO to be barred
Once this process is complete, Naik's IRF Educational Trust will have to take prior permission before receiving funds.
New Delhi, Nov 1: The Union Home Ministry has issued notices to the Dr Zakir Naik run Islamic Research Foundation and this is an indication that the NGO will soon be barred from receiving foreign funds. The notice was issued for cancellation of the NGO's FCRA licence.
Further the Ministry for Home Affairs has also commenced the process of putting another NGO run by Naik on the prior permission category list.
Once this process is complete, Naik's IRF Educational Trust will have to take prior permission before receiving funds.
Various investigations have suggested that the funds received by the NGOs were used in radicalisation of youth.
There has been a controversy surrounding this issue. It may be recalled that the IRF's registration under the Foreign Contributions Regulations Act was renewed in September.
This had led to the suspension of a joint secretary and four other officials in the Ministry for Home Affairs.
