For these 'premis,' their 'guruji' Ram Rahim can do no wrong

They are shell shocked, heart broken and could barely speak. Two devotees who refer to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh as 'pitaji' or father cannot believe that their guru is in jail.

Both devotees that OneIndia spoke with refer to themselves as 'premis' or lovers. They are of the firm belief that their guru has been wronged and this is a brief bad phase which will end soon.

All of us have great love and respect for him. After all I was addicted to drugs and Guruji did for me what no doctor could do. He through his kind words and style of meditation ensured that I was rid of the menace within a month, the premi said. Ram Rahim adopts a style of meditation which is known ass 'simran.'

In the case of Ram Rahim, the belief is blind. No amount of taint can every change what the devotees feel for him. Be it the way he speaks, dresses or acts in his own films, their gurji can do no wrong.

It is not the first time that he has been mired in controversy. However his following has only risen and not come down one bit. Why does he has millions of followers.

Punjab and Haryana are two states which have immense caste divisions. The Dera chief promises a caste free society. He stresses on equality and humility. This has attracted millions of people especially from the lower strata of society. Moreover his subsidised food programme is a major hit with the people. He also runs a subsidised medicine programme which has made him even more popular.

There are currently around 104 welfare schemes that are being run by him. These include de-addition programmes, diabetes camps and cardiac clinics for which he has won 13 Guinness awards. The Dera chief claims that in his de-addiction camps at least 5 crore people in Punjab had quit drugs.
