Fog troubles: Delhi hit again, Amritsar airport shut
Around 30 flights were delayed as both the main runways have been shut due to poor visibility. On Tuesday too, over 150 flight s were delayed and diverted.
Over 20 trains have been delayed on Wednesday. Amritsar airport faced a similar situation. The airport has been shut down since Monday evening due to fog. The Met department predicted zero visibility on Wednesday morning as well.
In many of Delhi and National Capital Region, visibility dipped to zero. Authorities said, despite the instrument landing system and cat IIIB facility, it was a complete shut down of operations at the IGI airport. Flights require a minimum runway visibility between 125 to 150 metre to take off and can land using Cat 3 B while visibility is above 50 m.
Delays in train services hit at least 10000 passengers on Tuesday evenin. The railways have no mechanism to help the driver navigate in fog. Detonators and fog safe devices help the driver to determine the location of the signal. But if the fog thickens, it is up to the driver to ensure safety.
Delhi faces extreme winter every year. The flight and train delays is an annual occurence, said officials.
