First year Engineering student commits suicide, blames ragging

Hyderabad, Sept 2: A 1st year student of CMR Engineering College, Hyderabad was found dead on the railway tracks of Kazipet, Warangal district. A suicide note was also found on Sainath Vadlakonda, who wrote: "Please stop ragging". He is reported to have also written that the situation would not have arrived had there been no ragging by the seniors.

A resident of Ramakrsihnapuram in Adilabad district, Sainath's brother Raghu said he had never mentioned harassment to him. The Kazipet police has registered a case and a post-mortem is being conducted at MGM hospital in Warangal.


Meanwhile, the Medchal Police said that they are investigating the case. The principal of CMR college was surprised at the incident and said that there never has been such a case before and that college takes care that ragging is banned.

However, this is the third such incident in the city in the past one month. Earlier 18-year old Riteshwari hanged herself in her hostel room in Nagarjuna University in Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh. Even she blamed ragging for her suicide. Another BTech student Sunitha jumped off her college building in Guntur district. Her death is also reportedly due to ragging.
