Bengaluru, Dec 2: Intelligence Bureau officials are ascertaining the antecedents of an engineer from Andhra Pradesh who is suspected to have joined the ISIS.
The trail is on a person by the name Tulfizur Rehman an engineering graduate hailing from Machillapatanam. If it is ascertained that Rehman had indeed joined the ISIS, then it would be the first such case from Andhra Pradesh.
The 38 year-old Rehman had left AP a few years back and taken up a job in Kuwait. The intelligence agencies while keeping a regular check on social media sites for ISIS related activities are said to have stumbled upon Rehman.
He was visiting ISIS related sites and also posting his views on them. Officials feel that he may have joined the ISIS now.
IB officials tell OneIndia that the information trickling in is still premature. We are trying to contact the family members for more information. The AP police is coordinating with their counterparts in Telangana seeking out more information as some of Rehman's family members are said to be in Hyderabad.
If this case turns out to be correct then it is another worry for the IB officials. So far there have been no reports of any youth joining the ISIS from Andhra Pradesh. There were certain sensitive areas that were under watch, but no incident has been reported.
IB officials have now told the police at Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Eluru to keep a close watch on ISIS related activities.
