Sasikala's conviction came at a very crucial time for her. She was in a tearing hurry to become the chief minister of Tamil Nadu and had even carted away AIADMK MLAs to a resort to avoid poaching. However the conviction by the Supreme Court on Tuesday stopped her march into the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly.
After she surrendered on Wednesday, she was taken to the Bengaluru central jail. Once she was in jail she was given a list of options such as tailoring, basket weaving and candle making. She chose candle making, following which she was told that she would be paid Rs 50 per day. If Sasikala remains in jail for the entire tenure of 3.6 years and makes candles every day then she would earn an approximate of Rs 65,700.
This amount would be given to her at the end of her jail term. Several comments on her being a candle maker were posted on social media platforms. However a tweet by Raaya under the handle @tweeterjumbo read, "Finally she is CM, candle maker in prison."
