Punjab: Farmer commits suicide
Patiala, Apr 1: A 50-year-old farmer, apparently under debt, committed suicide by hanging himself near his house, police said today.
Mohar Singh, owned less than half hectare of land and had a debt of more than Rs 10 lakh. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
He was apparently very upset when his son returned from Malaysia and could not reach Russia as promised by a travel agent, police said.
According to family members, Singh was under depression due to poor financial condition. He had little land that too was pledged with the bank. This was sixth suicide in a row in last few months in Samana area.
