Born on June 21, 1933 in Lucknow, Mudrarakshas' original name was Subhash Chandra, who wrote novels and other forms of Hindi prose besides producing literature for children with his pen name.

He had also edited Hindi journal Anuvarta and was also associated with All India Radio. His write-ups invariably hinged on various vital social causes and issues.

Expressing deep shock at the demise of Mudrarakshas, famous literary figure Dudhnath Singh said he lost a personal friend since 1950s when Mudrarakshas edited Gyanoday.

"Mudrarakshas had begun his writing career in Kolkata. He had always been a sincere writer committed to intelligent writings with his stories bearing testimony to his sharp writing styles and skills. Later after returning to Lucknow, he also wrote several dramas and commanded great respect in Lucknow literary circle." Singh said.

"Mudrarakshas wrote intensely on the issues related to women and dalits. His writings were non-traditional, refreshing and unique in their own rights. He refrained from following any particular style or tradition. He always built his own path - a tradition, which is the first criteria for the original writings. I bow to his memory."
