Fake 'UP government' website runs polls on Ram temple, shut down

The link of the website and the poll has been going viral since Thursday and many have been voting on the site and sharing the same on social media encouraging others to do the same.

A website claiming to be the official website of the Uttar Pradesh government has been running polls on the Ayodhya Ram temple issue. The website with the link, http://ayodhya-issue.gov-up.in is asking people to vote and 'help government gather consensus' on building at Ram Temple or mosque at Ayodhya. The website's URL is designed deliberately similar to Uttar Pradesh's official government website, www.up.gov.in. Following complaints against the website, the same has been shut down.

The content on the fake website prompts people to give the government a referendum on Ayodhya issue, deeming it an initiative by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath whose picture the website carries. The link of the website and the poll has been going viral since Thursday and many have been voting on the site and sharing the same on social media encouraging others to do the same.

Whatsapp message that directs a user to this fake website is also being spread. "Do you want Ram Mandir or Babri Masjid on the Ayodhya disputed land? I have participated in Online Poll on Ayodhya Issue. Request you to vote on http://ayodhya-issue.gov-up.in/. It is important to share our views with Govt," the WhatsApp message says.

To make the website seem genuine, miscreants who designed the website have also provided a link to the official Uttar Pradesh government at the bottom of the page. Of the three options provided, one for 'constructing Ram Mandir' received the highest number of votes. The number provided on the website belongs to a person who claimed to have no knowledge about the same.
