Kerala shocker: Facebook blots out page that used morphed pics of teenagers


Kochi, Apr 20: The social networking website Facebook page, which was in news for posting pictures of children and young girls has been blocked after a flurry of complaints from parents.

The page "Kochu Sundarikal" (young beauties) in Malayalam had around 7,539 likes and many followers, mostly from Kerala and Middle East.

While many pictures were taken from personal profiles of youngsters of Kerala, some were childhood pictures of actors of South India.

Even though there were no nude pictures, most of images had many comments, almost all of sexual nature.

The issue came to notice when parents of many children complaint of using their daughters' pics in this page.

Some parents last week had approached the Kerala police's Cyber Cell, to raise the issue with Facebook legal cell to block the site.

Experts say that the page found to be using morphed pics of girls, was a kind of a child prostitution site and largely a "den of paedophiles".

The page contained pictures of young girls, mostly school-going girls and teenagers.

The perverts trawled the site, copying pictures parents have taken of their children and images youngsters have shared with friends.

Investigation has uncovered the paedophile Facebook page was packed with hundreds of pictures ranging from children as young as eight, was being run from Saudi Arabia.

Raji Mohan, parent of a 10-year-old girl said that the content of the page was chilling and it was a pit stop for pedophiles, and saw some people commenting regularly on those pictures.

"This is an blatant misuse of social media and government should bring some law to ban them all," she said, adding that the need of the hour is to bring these people to book.
