New Delhi, April 15: Priyanka Gandhi has suddenly fetched all limelight during this election time and now the daughter of the Congress President Sonia Gandhi is expected to visit Varanasi. Priyanka, according to sources, will visit the holy city to pray for Congress candidate Ajay rai who is contesting against Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal.

Priyanka's visit to Varanasi attracted many as it was reported that she had expressed her desire to contest the election from Varanasi challenging the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Arvind Kejriwal. The Congress, however, opposed Priyanka's decision of fielding her from the city, media reports claimed.

Contradicting to media reports, Priyanka, however, informed that she was not willing to contest election and her family would have supported her if she had expressed her desire to stand from Varanasi against Modi and Kejriwal.

"My decision to not contest is personal. I will only change it shen I feel from within that I should," she said. She went on to reinforce her earlier remarks that she wanted to campaign only in Amethi, from where her brother is contesting, and in Rae Bareli, from where her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi is fighting.

There have been speculations that Congress is keen on Priyanka playing a bigger role in the party. "My brother, mother and husband (Robert Vadra) would wholeheartedly support me if I ever wanted to (contest)," 42-year-old Priyanka said.

Priyanka is expected to reach Varanasi anytime after May 7, the day when Amethi goes to poll. Election will be held in Varanasi on May 12. A sources from the party was quoted as saying, "After the polling at Rae Bareli and Amethi, Priyanka Gandhi will come to Varanasi to offer prayers to Lord Shiva at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Lord Hanuman at Sankat Mochan Temple."

Earlier both Modi and Kejriwal had visited the city and held rallies. While Modi had visited Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Sankat Mochan Temple, the AAP convener had visited Kal Bhairo Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
