Revealed: Sonia Gandhi is poorer than Rakhi Sawant

New Delhi, April 2: As the Lok Sabha election is approaching fast, candidates of all political parties are filing their nominations and declaring details of their assets. Following the trend, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, April 2 filed her nomination for Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh and declared she has asset worth Rs 9 crore.

Declaration about her asset shocked many as it has been declared that the UPA Chairperson is poorer than Bollywood item girl-turned-politician Rakhi Sawant who filed her nomination for Mumbai North West seat on Tuesday. Rakhi has asset worth Rs 15 crore.

Sonia Gandhi's asset:

Mrs Gandhi has assets worth over Rs 9.28 crore though she does not have a vehicle in her name. She has movable assets worth Rs 2.81 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 6.47 crore.

Taken with the declarations made by her in the last elections, Mrs Gandhi's assets show a six-fold increase. Congress sources said it was only because last time the declaration of value of assets was based on the book value while this time it was based on market value.

Mrs Gandhi has given a loan of Rs 9 lakh to her son Rahul and in her income tax returns for 2012-13 she had shown her income of over Rs 14.21 lakh. Among the movable assets, she has Rs 85,000 in cash, Rs 66 lakh in banks, RS 10 lakh worth bonds and shares worth Rs 1.90 lakh.|

Mrs Gandhi has mutual funds worth Rs. 82.20 lakh, PPF amounting to Rs 42.49 lakh, National Saving Scheme of Rs 2.86 lakh and ornaments worth over Rs 62 lakh.

Among the immovable assets, she has declared an ancestral property in Italy worth Rs 19.90 lakh besides land valued at Rs 4.86 crore in Deramandi village, another land worth Rs 1.40 crore in Sultanpur village, the affidavit said. Last time while filing her nomination papers from here in 2009, Sonia Gandhi had declared her assets over Rs.1.37 crore.

Rakhi Sawant's asset:

36-year-old Rakhi, who is taking on heavyweights like Gurudas Kamat of Congress and Gajanan Kirtikar of Shiv Sena from the constituency, has movable property worth Rs 3.57 crore and immovable assets worth Rs 11.12 crore.

The Rashtriya Aam Party candidate has cash of Rs 96,427 in hand, and Rs 39.13 lakh in fixed deposits. The actress has invested Rs 61.26 lakh in bonds and shares and Rs 2.12 crore in insurance and postal savings.

She owns a Ford Endeavour worth Rs.21 lakh and jewellery worth Rs 7.55 lakh. Her immovable property includes a residential flat and offices in suburban Mumbai. The flat was purchased at Rs 5,03,12,500 and its current market value is stated to be Rs 11,12,59,000.

Rakhi has declared liabilities of Rs 2.52 crore that includes Rs 72.5 lakh in income tax dues. The declaration says Rakhi has a case pending against her under sections of cheating and breach of trust under IPC.

Rakhi has marked herself "illiterate" in the educational qualifications column in her nomination papers. The actress, who launched Rashtriya Aam Party, had said she was entering politics "to wake up MPs from their deep sleep and to solve problems of people as they have deep trust in me".

All the six parliamentary constituencies of Mumbai, including Mumbai North West seat, will go to polls on April 24.
