ECI bribery case: TTV is main accused, why isn't he arrested, asks Sukesh
The police has claimed that further investigation was required into the case.
Counsel for Sukesh Chandrasekhar the alleged middleman in the ECI bribery case asked why TTV Dinakaran was not arrested. The counsel, while presenting his arguments, against police's plea to extend custody asked, "TTV Dinakaran is the main accused in the case. Why hasn't he been arrested? Why is the police seeking an extension for Sukesh's custody?"
The counsel who spoke for Sukesh Chandrasekhar also said that he was tortured in custody. "I do not know who is questioning me. Those questioning me should bear name tags," he said on Sukesh's behalf. The counsel also told the court that despite being allowed to meet his parents and collect clothes from them, Sukesh's parents were denied a meeting with him.
Justice Poonam Chowdhary who rejected the argument extended Sukesh Chandrasekhar's police custody till April 28. The judge maintained that the offence was big and that the sanctity of the electoral process was undermined. The Delhi crime branch police submitted call records between TTV Dinakaran and Sukesh Chandrasekhar to the court. The police claimed that further investigation was required into the case.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the Delhi police would bring Sukesh Chandrasekhar and TTV Dinakaran face-to-face as part of the inquiry. The Delhi police have also submitted to the court that Hawala operator, Shah Faizal has identified Sukesh Chandrasekar. In a submission to the court, the Delhi police said that the hawala operator recognises Sukesh for receiving the money sent from Chennai.
