The Election Commission on Friday gave both factions of the AIADMK time until June 16 to submit documents. The extension also comes with a rider that both factions are not to use the party's symbol till the dispute is settled. The EC has asked both factions to submit additional documents to support their claims on the 'Two leaves' symbol.
The EC, in its Friday order said that both parties shall not be allowed to use the name 'AIADMK'. "Neither of the two groups shall also be permitted to use the symbol, 'Two Leaves', reserved for the 'All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam," the EC's order added.
With the EC's order, the warring factions will continue to be addressed by the names accorded to them, AIADMK Amma and AIADMK PTA and will be represented by the 'hat' and 'electric pole' symbols respectively.
