Visakhapatnam: In an apparent dig at the BJP's membership drive, CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat on Wednesday, April 15 said that his party do not intend to strengthen party base by missed calls and messages.

"We don't want to build party membership through messages and missed calls," said Karat during CPI(M)'s 21st party congress in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Expressing his growing concern over the party's plunge in states like Kerala, West Bengal and Tripura, he said that party need to coin new tactics to remain relevant in new political scenario.

Karat said, "We have had some electoral reverses, mainly the setback in West Bengal. But overall the strength of the CPM and the left cannot be said to have declined in a substantial way."

On West Bengal, he said that the party finds the ruling Trinamool Congress as a bigger political opponent than BJP.

Praising AAP's style of connecting with the masses, he asked Party cadres to take que from the party which ruffled both BJP and Congress in Delhi.

 

Karat mum on tie-up with Congress:

While Karat denounced BJP's policy on various issue, interestingly, he chose to keep mum on issues with the Congress Party.

Admitting that the party failed to take advantage of public anger against Congress and BJP benefiting in elections, Karat said that party made a mistake to try to form a third alternative.

"We want to form a powerful alternative force against bourgeois parties," Karat said.

CPI(M) are trying to replace the attempt to build a third alternative with a Left Demo alternative, he added.
