"The lady concerned has been traced and she is in police custody," Singh told media persons.
"It appears that whatever was there in press was an organized attempt to malign somebody. Interrogation is going on, It seems the girl was being used to malign somebody," he further added.
BJP cries foul:
Meanwhile the opposition BJP has categorically rejected the claims made by police as well as CM.
BJP spokesperson Ganesh Dutt was quoted by Times Now as saying, "Police is acting under state government's pressure. They are trying to cover up the entire incident."
The local BJP leaders are quoting social media reports that the girl was sexually assaulted by relatives of the Congress minister and that is why government as well as police are trying to hide the truth. As per BJP leaders the victim, who was brutally gangraped, has been shifted outside district to get treated.
Social media claims victim is dead:
Meanwhile social media is now abuzz that the victim has reportedly succumbed to her injuries and the police are trying to hide truth.
Some are even claiming that the image circulated on social media are fake and does not belong to the girl concerned.
Social media has alleged that the police is deliberately not taking any action in nabbing the culprits as relatives of some high profile politicians of Himachal Pradesh are said to be involved in this case.
Earlier, former BJP minister Krishan Kapoor at Dharamshala had also demanded that accused, irrespective of their status be given death sentence in accordance with law. He too has alleged that the cops are not discharging their duties honestly, in this case, due to the involvement of relatives of some politicians.
State VHP organising secretary, Manoj Kumar demanded that culprits be immediately arrested, brought to justice and awarded capital punishment.
"If the case is not investigated properly and culprits are not awarded capital punishment, the crime against women would escalate in the state and the image of Himachal, known as 'Dev Bhumi' would be sullied," he said.
Student bodies demand justice:
The ABVP took out protest march demanding action against the culprits.
The SFI campus unit of HPU also protested against the alleged rape and said despite the family members of the victim urging the principal of the college for registration of case against the accused, no action was taken.
"The culprits of heinous crime should be nabbed and stringent punishment be awarded to them," Campus secretary Vikram Kaith demanded.
Tension prevailed over the mysterious 'gang rape' incident, which allegedly took place within the campus of Degree College in Dharamshala. The incident, however, hasn't been confirmed and the victim, too, hasn't been traced so far.
Police reportedly was forced to register the case following massive student protests and constant criticism of the police on the social media. The police have also announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for providing information about the crime.
