It seems as though the devotees at Dharmasthala are having a tough time getting their prasadam. Devotees are being denied prasadam at Dharmasthala for not tendering Rs 100 notes. The situation was chaotic as many devotees had landed at the temple with notes of Rs 500 and 1,000 which has been declared invalid.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday declared as invalid the Rs 500 and 1,000 notes. Devotees at the temple were also complaining that the notes were not being accepted at hotels near the temple. Many had to return without breakfast as they did not have Rs 100 notes.

At the shops too the situation was chaotic. Shopkeepers say that they have no time to go to banks. They also say that there is no clarity on what is to be done next. This was all so sudden and it has only led to panic, shopkeepers told this correspondent. Some people did try their luck with the shopkeepers to get change for a Rs 500 note, but not there has not been single case of this being entertained.

The shopkeepers say that the biggest problem that they are facing is paying their suppliers. We need to shell out 7,000 on an average daily for our suppliers. Business is suffering and we hope that this phase is temporary, the shop vendors also point out.
