Delhi's sex ratio improves marginally

New Delhi, Aug 27: The national capital's sex ratio has improved marginally from 895:1,000 in 2013 to 896:1,000 in 2014, the city government said on Thursday.

Besides, the infant mortality rate has dipped from 22.37 in 2013 to 21.66 in 2014 (per thousand live births), according to the Annual Report on Registration of Births and Deaths in Delhi 2014.

The report was released by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

In 2014, a total of 3.74 lakh births were registered as compared to 3.70 lakh in 2013.

Of the 3.74 lakh, about 1.97 lakh (52.74 percent) were male and 1.77 lakh (47.26 percent) were female.

Institutional births have risen from 3.02 lakh (81.75 percent) in 2013 to 3.10 lakh (82.83 percent) in the year 2014.

Moreover, 66 percent of institutional births occurred in the government hospitals and 34 percent in private hospitals.

The number of registered deaths has gone up from 0.97 lakh in 2013 to 1.21 lakh in 2014.

Out of the 1.21 lakh, 62.17 percent were male and 37.83 percent were female, the report said.
