New Delhi, Apr 8: Family of 38-year-old Shahnawaz, who was thrashed to death in a road rage incident in central Delhi's Turkman Gate, met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today at Delhi Secretariat and demanded justice and a speedy trial.

The chief minister assured the victim's family of all possible help by the government and has asked Environment Minister Asim Ahmed Khan to submit a report on how the family can be helped.

Khan is also the local MLA of the area where Shahnawaz was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men.

The meeting was also attended by home minister Jitender Singh Tomar.

Kejriwal also directed to ensure good education is given to the victim's two children, who are eyewitnesses in the case, and financial security to the family.

During the meeting, victim's mother Noor Jahan told the chief minister that Shahnawaz always wished that you (Kejriwal) get relief from cough.

And never expected to meet you (Kejriwal) in a situation like this, said an officer present during the meeting. However, the family refused to demand any financial help or a government job.

"We have lost our son. We are not here (Delhi Secretariat) to seek any compensation or a government job. We want justice for our son and speedy trial," victim's father Mohd Salauddin said.

The family also hinted at personal enmity behind Shahnawaz's murder as the accused were allegedly involved in illegal construction in the area to which he had objected.

Kin of the deceased further demanded an end to the illegal construction.

"After the meeting, the chief minister has asked for the best available prosecutor to the family to fight the case and a list of illegal construction in the area from the family," a senior government official said.

Shahnawaz was beaten to death on Sunday in a road rage incident near Turkman Gate. All the five accused in the case have been arrested by the Delhi Police.

Condemning the politics being played over the incident, the family also expressed unhappiness over surfacing of a letter allegedly written by the victim father demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.
