Delhi rape: Kejriwal puts blame on state police
This is Kejriwal's first response after the alleged gangrape of a Danish woman in the state on Wednesday.
"Why are rapes happening in Delhi? If an incident does not happen in Delhi, it is not because of the Delhi Police but despite it," the Aam Aadmi Party chief said.
Other ministers validated the chief minister's allegation. Law Minister Somnath Bharti said that police refused to investigate sex and drug trade in his constituency although he approached them after people complained to him about it. Bharti further alleged that Delhi police argued with him and refused to act.
Rakhi Birla, AAP's youngest minister who looks after women's affairs, accused police of protecting people who had allegedly attempted a murder for dowry.
Kejriwal demanded that the cops involved in the two incidents be suspended. ""Delhi Police is compromising and its accountability should be fixed. The SHOs of Sagarpur and Malviya Nagar should be suspended for their negligence", the CM said. "How can Delhi Police say state ministers are interfering in their work? Police are just refusing to act against criminals", he added.
