Delhi rape: Congress workers protest before secretariat

Delhi rape: Congress workers protest before secretariat, slams AAP
New Delhi, Jan 16: Led by chief of the party's Delhi wing Arvinder Singh Lovely, Congress has launched an agitation in front of Delhi secretariat to protest against the Aam Aadmi Party's alleged soft response to the gangrape of a Danish national.

"This (AAP) is the same party which blamed Sheila Dikshit and accused her of making excuses. How can somebody justify their inaction in a case like this, when they themselves would get into protest mode demanding action when we were in power", said Lovely on Thursday at a press conference.

"The Delhi government should work on this rape case immediately. This is the same government that could not wait a day and started protesting outside the hospital where the victim was being treated," he said.

Congress leaders attacked the young ministry from all directions. A senior Congress leader Haroon Yusuf said,"What is worse is that the crime (gangrape) took place in the Delhi Chief Minister's constituency."

A 51-year old Danish national was gang-raped in Paharganj area of New Delhi on Tuesday night after she could not find her way back to her hotel. Delhi Police have arrested two suspects and is on the look out for others who were involved in the crime. The arrested have been remanded to 3-day police custody by a Delhi court.

The Danish woman left the country on Wednesday but has assured that she would cooperate with the police.
