New Delhi, April 10: Delhi Police on Friday seized an AK-47 and SLR rifle from a plot owned by former independent MLA Rambir Shokeen.
The police made the recovery on the instance of gangster Neeraj Bawana, who was recently arrested.
"We have recovered two prohibited weapons, including an AK 47 and a SLR rifle from former MLA's house. These arms were looted from Uttarakhand police on December 16 by Bawana who played an active role in the escape of another notorious criminal, Amit Bhura, from the police custody, while he was being produced at Baghpat court," a senior police officer said.
According to media reports, the recovered arms were looted from Uttarakhand Police at the time of escape of sharp-shooter Amit Kumar alias Bhura from Bhagpat in December 2014.
Senior police officer said that former MLA Rambir Shokeen is the maternal uncle of Neeraj Bawana and is at large since he was arrested.
Shokeen was elected to the Delhi Assembly as an independent MLA in 2013 from Mundka constituency, and he later joined the Congress party.
