New Delhi, April 11: After recent poll debacle in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is trying to test its fortune in the forthcoming MCD elections in Delhi.

To seek voters' attention, the party has roped in yesteryear's Bollywood actor Chandrachur Singh, who has been away from the film industry from quite a long time.

The actor, who generally maintains a low-profile was recently spotted in Delhi, where he was seen campaigning for the BSP candidate Neha Chokan.

24-year-old Neha is contesting from West Delhi's Jaitpur Hari Nagar B Ward (97-S). She is the wife of Mohit Chokan, who was earlier associated with the BJP. She will face AAP candidate Sushma Mishra.

Chandrachur is said to be the family friend of Neha and that is why, he is campaigning for her. He roamed on Delhi streets for almost two hours, campaigning for her.

Chandrachur is not new to politics. His father was an MP from Khair city of Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, while his mother was the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir, Odisha.

Chandrachur made his Bollywood debut in 1996 and appeared in many films, but after an accident during boat riding in Goa, he bid adieu to the film industry.

It took almost ten years for him to recover from the accident, but by then, his career had taken a back seat. Recently, he appeared in a movie, "Char din ki chandni", but it was a flop.

BSP to begin campaign on April 14

BSP, which is contesting in over 200 wards in the MCD polls, will begin campaign from April 14, on the occasion of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar birth anniversary.

Party supremo Mayawati is all set to address party workers in Delhi's Talkatora stadium on Friday. The party has already announced 70 candidates and will release more names in next few days.

In 2012 MCD electioons, the BSP had won 15 seats. In the recently concluded assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the BSP bagged only 19 seats out of 403 seats.
