Delhi-based Bengali couple murder: Khap bars any help to all four accused
Dehradun, Nov 15: Days after alleged rape and murder of Delhi-based Bengali woman and her companion in Uttarakhand by their driver and his three accomplices, a local khap panchayat of 13 villages has decided not to give financial or legal help to all the four accused.
The police had arrested four locals of Dehradun's Chakrata region, including cab driver Raju Das, for allegedly murdering 27-year-old Moumita Das and her 24-year-old companion Avijit Paul.
Bablu on Tuesday confessed during interrogation that he raped Moumita before killing her, police sources claimed, adding that this can be confirmed only after her body was found.
The sources said that the accused confessed that the woman's body was dumped in the Yamuna river near Lakhamandal while Avijit's body was thrown from a cliff about two km from there.
Search has been launched to find Moumita's body from the Yamuna
The incident happened on October 23 when the victims were returning in the taxi from the Tiger Falls about 30 km from Chakrata near Dehradun. As there was no news about them for several days, the woman's father lodged a complaint in Delhi on October 29, they said.
The matter came to light after her friend's body was recovered from Purola town in Uttarkashi district. The sources said that the accused confessed that the woman's body was dumped in the Yamuna river near Lakhamandal while her friend's body was thrown from a cliff about two km from there.
Moumita hailed from Kalyani in Nadia district in West Bengal. She taught at a school in Gurgaon. Search has been launched to find the girl's body from the Yamuna.
Avijit hailed from Dumdum near Kolkata.
