Cyprus president arrives in Mumbai for a four-day visit
Nicos Anastasiades hopes that India can help Cyprus in its quest for reunification as it has close ties with Turkey.
Mumbai, April 26: President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday on a four-day India visit.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao received Anastasiades at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, an official spokesperson said.
"This is the first visit to India of President Anastasiades, who had substantive meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September 2015," he said.
The Cyprus president is being accompanied by the ministers of finance, energy, transport and agriculture on his visit.
President Anastasiades will address a business forum in Mumbai on Wednesday. He will then travel to Delhi, address a business forum and deliver a talk at Observer Research Foundation, ORF in the national capital.
On Friday morning, he will be given a ceremonial guard of honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan followed by wreath laying by him at Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi, Raj Ghat.
His other engagements on that day include a meeting with President Pranab Mukherjee, who will host a banquet in his honour and delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
