Officials said the incident occurred late night around 1230 when constable Santosh K Singh (28) was on sentry duty in the campus of 211 battalion in Sobha village.
"Singh fired three rounds from his INSAS rifle upon himself and he died on the spot. He was immediately rushed to a health centre but was pronounced dead on arrival," they said.
Singh was a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. Senior Central Reserve Police Force officials and local police teams have reached the spot even as the paramilitary, deployed in the state for anti-Naxal operations, has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the incident.
