CPI-M dubs suspension of 6 Congress MPs as 'undemocratic tactic'
CPI(M) Lok Sabha member Mohammed Salim demanded Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to reconsider her decision to suspend the six Congress members.
New Delhi, Jul 24: Attacking the Centre over the suspension of six Congress MPs during their protests over the lynching issue, the CPI(M) on Monday said the opposition will not be silenced by its such "undemocratic" tactics.
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury termed the tussle as "battle" for constitutional values of the country.
"The Opposition will not be silenced by such undemocratic tactics of the govt. This is a battle for Constitutional values of our country," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) Lok Sabha member Mohammed Salim demanded Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to reconsider her decision to suspend the six Congress members.
"Not allowed to discuss #MobLynching today #LokSabha witnessed unprecedented noisy seen... members suspended. Hon Speaker should reconsider," he tweeted.
Six lawmakers were suspended today from the Lok Sabha for five days by Mahajan for causing "grave disorder" by storming the Well, tearing papers and throwing them towards the Chair during their protests over the lynching issue.
Ordering their suspension amid noisy protests by Congress members and counter-slogans of "shame, shame" from the BJP benches, the Speaker said the conduct of Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh, Adhir Rajan Chowdhury, Ranjeet Ranjan, Sushmita Dev and M K Raghavan was "highly unbecoming" and had undermined the Chair's dignity.
